Student Prizegiving 2024

Exceptional Contribution Awards

These prizes are awarded to the students who have made an exceptional contribution to the School and the community, showing great leadership in tackling problems and finding solutions, making a lasting, positive impact.

Importantly, these winners also demonstrated how they benefited from their work and how they engaged and mobilised others to become involved, to effect positive change and leverage resources.

Rose Nozari

"I am incredibly honoured to be receiving this award, as I am surrounded by so many exceptional people who contribute to the foundation of the medical community. As the 2023/2024 HYMS NeuroSoc president, running the first HYMS National Neuro conference was such an inspirational experience. I feel lucky that I was able to be a part of bringing like-minded students together to learn about neurology/neurosurgery and discuss research that could change the future landscape of the field. Thank you to the entire HYMS NeuroSoc committee for all of their hard work in making the event happen!"

It has been a privilege to work alongside such dedicated colleagues, faculty, and students who continually inspire me. Eduardo Muscogliati

"I want to sincerely thank Hull York Medical School for this award. I'm really proud of the project that led to it: creating H&S videos to be available on Blackboard. The goal was to help expand the number of resources available for H&S, which were very limited. I'm grateful for the support and encouragement from my professors and classmates throughout the project."

Rodrigo Muscogliati

"It means a lot to receive this award by Hull York Medical School. It is very motivating and encouraging to have our extracurricular work recognised by our institution! I look forward to continuing working in my extracurricular activities and I am very thankful to be helped and seen by HYMS in this process!"

Omar Saulat

"Receiving the Exceptional Contribution to the Medical School Award is a tremendous honour, and I'm truly grateful for this recognition. It means a great deal to know that my efforts, whether in academics, extracurricular activities, or supporting my peers, have made a positive impact. I'd like to extend my thanks to my tutors, colleagues, and friends who have supported and inspired me throughout this journey. This award encourages me to continue striving for excellence and reinforces my commitment to both my studies and contributing to the broader medical community."

Jake Sumpton

"It's really nice to have been recognised for our project, which aims to help students to better understand the subtopic of health and society and statistics. It was a long time in the making but it's really great to see that people are able to use our resource in their learning."

"I'm a recent Hull York Medical School graduate and I've been working within Widening Participation for a while now, I never expected to win anything for it! The Widening Participation initiative aims to make a medical career more accessible to underrepresented groups. More recently, we have been working to ensure continued support to WP students throughout their medical training. There are people all over the country who, without merit or reward, work tirelessly to make medical careers accessible to the masses. I want to take this opportunity to thank them for everything they do. To all of our applicants and students: you are worthy and brilliant, fight for what you believe in, the support is out there if you need it."

"It's an absolute honour to receive this award Exceptional Contribution to the Community for the work I've done with Palpate. This wouldn't have been possible without the help of the rest of the Palpate committee, and all the students who volunteered their spare time to teach our sessions - so a big thank you to everyone else! Being part of Palpate was a brilliant opportunity to get involved with Medical Education and I'd like to encourage others to get involved with the society in the future. I'm excited to see Palpate continue to grow and support future Hull York Medical School students!"

Thomas Muskett

"I am very grateful to have been given this award alongside the rest of the Hull York Medical School Palpate committee. It is a great way to recognise the effort we put in for all year groups to receive extra teaching, and also have the opportunity to teach during medical school."

Rosie Phillips

"It's an honour for Palpate to be recognised in this way for the contribution it makes to our community."

Raegan Tyrrell

"Thank you to everyone involved in Palpate society for the hard work and commitment to providing such a valuable resource for younger years. I'm very proud of what we as a team have achieved and look forward to seeing the direction the new team take things."
