We encourage doctors who work locally and have experience teaching Hull York Medical School students to consider examining for us as our training is specific to Medicine at the School and is not transferable to other institutions.
OSLER Examiner requirements
To be a Hull York Medical School examiner your clinical experience must fall into one of the following categories:
- Secondary care consultant (hospital specialist)
- General Practitioner
- Trainee post membership exams / higher trainee (5 years post-graduation)
- 3 to 4 years post-graduation trainees can be used as reserves only
Training requirements
Before you can examine in our summative OSLERs you must
- have completed online or face-to-face Hull York Medical School clinical examiner training
- be up to date with Equality, Diversity & Inclusivity (ED) training from your employer
- have observed a summative OSLER station and ideally also have been observed for at least one summative OSLER station before examining independently for the first time
Completion of the OSLER examiner training will be recognised with a certificate confirming 2 CPD points from Hull York Medical School.
From 2025-26 Examiner training is valid for 3 years and is specific to prepare potential examiners for examining OSLERs.
Unconscious bias training must also be completed, is valid for 3 years, and will be recognised with a certificate confirming 1 CPD point.
