Obituary: Professor Sir Alan Clive Roberts OBE KstJ TD

An Honorary Doctor of Science and outstanding clinical scientist, Professor Alan Roberts OBE pioneered the development of surgical adhesives.
Professor Roberts was an outstanding clinical scientist, and he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science by the Medical School in 2019. His numerous achievements include developing the clinical prosthetic "Silskin" which is used globally to transform patients’ lives. He is best known, however, for pioneering the development and use of surgical adhesives, work undertaken at the Academic Surgical Unit here at the University of Hull. In an equally successful parallel Military career, Professor Roberts served as Aide-de-camp to Her Majesty the Queen and Gentleman Usher Imperial Society of Knights Bachelor. Professor Roberts was a valued and avid supporter of the Medical School, who will be missed.
