Biography

Dr Jack Kastelik completed undergraduate training at the St Andrews University (BSc 1991), and University of Manchester (MBChB 1994). He undertook postgraduate training in Respiratory and General Internal Medicine in Yorkshire region gaining his CCST in 2005. Dr Kastelik completed Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 2004 at the University of Hull. He also gained postgraduate educational qualification from the University of Hull (2013).

Dr Kastelik’s main clinical interests include lung cancer, mesothelioma and pleural disorders. He has extensive experience in interventional pulmonary and pleura procedures and thoracic ultrasound having co-authored national standards for training in thoracic ultrasound. He has written a large number of publications including book chapters on the topics of lung cancer, pleural diseases and simulation based education. Dr Kastelik also co-edited a large international book on lung cancer. Dr Kastelik has special interest in simulation based education and holds postgraduate medical education qualifications. In his role as the regional Training Programme Director for Respiratory Medicine, he developed regionally and nationally recognised simulation training in bronchoscopy and pleural procedures. Dr Kastelik developed a number of simulation bronchoscopy courses utilising both high and low fidelity simulation.

Dr Kastelik has been involved in medical education and training at the national level through his work as a chair of the Specialty Advisory Committee JRCPT, Regional Advisor for the Yorkshire and the Humber for the Royal College of Physicians and through his work at the British Thoracic Society Educational Committee, British Thoracic Society Council, Hull Medical Society Council. Dr Kastelik has been involved in developing the new National Respiratory Medicine Curriculum, ACP Respiratory curriculum, Triple accreditation programme for Internal Medicine, Respiratory Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine. Dr Kastelik is the Director of Medical Education at the Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
