Lecturer in Forensic Science/Programme Director

Role at Hull York Medical School

I am a lecturer in forensic science and the Programme Director for the undergraduate Forensic Science degree programme. I lead on modules in drug analysis and toxicology, as well as introduction to forensic science, environmental forensic science, and chemistry.

Biography

After obtaining a BSc (Hons) in Forensic and Analytical Science at Sheffield Hallam University, I moved on to become a forensic drug analyst for 4 years before working with the NHS within the virology and toxicology sector. Following this I pursued a PhD at the University of Sheffield, studying the tribological properties of contaminated gloves for forensic and clinical purposes. I then worked at RGU in Aberdeen, lecturing on the forensics and analytical science programme before joining the University of Hull in 2022.

Research

I have diverse interests in research, looking at tribological aspects of polymer materials, as well as how glove polymers and different membranes can prevent/aid the identification of fingermarks and footmarks. Much of my focus is also on the pedagogical techniques in forensic science and HE.

Teaching

I lecture on the B.Sc. Forensic Science program and I am the module leader and lecturer for the Foundation Chemistry (330143), Introduction to Forensic Science (441318), Environmental Forensic Science (662331) and Forensic Analysis of Drugs (661918) at the University of Hull. I also lecture on Analytical Chemistry, Professional Skills, and Skills for Scientists on some modules throughout the course, in addition to running workshops for the foundation years on data analysis and preparing students for higher education. I also deliver lectures on the masters courses within the Hull York Medical School.

Publications
Postgraduate research supervision

I offer projects relating to third-year 40-credit independent research projects within forensic science and postgraduate taught 60-credit independent research projects within analytical forensic science and pharmaceutical education.
