Amaya is a Lecturer in Medical Education in the Health Professions Education Unit (HPEU). Her role includes leading and supporting modules in the postgraduate Health Professions Education and Medicine with a Gateway Year programmes, while contributing to tutor training and research activities of the HPEU.
Amaya has over ten years of experience in health professions education. She completed undergraduate medical training at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka, where she then worked as a Lecturer in Medical Education before moving to the Leeds Institute of Medical Education, University of Leeds as a Visiting Research Fellow. Amaya joined HYMS in February 2022. She holds an MD in Medical Education from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Amaya’s research interests include – professionalism, educational environment, moral reasoning and communication skills.
Amaya is a tutor and supervisor on the MSc, Diploma and Certificate in Health Professions Education programmes. She also contributes to teaching on the Medicine with a Gateway Year programme.
