Research associate as part of the Yorkshire Cancer Research funded TRANSFORM group - Transforming Cancer Outcomes in Yorkshire. Alex recently defended her PhD in the detection and assessment of malnutrition, sarcopenia, and cachexia in older adults with cancer (August 2022). 

Biography

Alex is a Research Associate at the Wolfson Palliative Care Research Centre. Her recently completed PhD included a mixed-methods study investigating nutrition-related wasting disorders in older adults with cancer, as part of the Yorkshire Cancer Research funded Transform group. Alex is a registered Dietitian, specialising in medical and surgical oncology. Alex is currently working as a Research Associate on CanBenefit II; CANcer BEhavioural Nutrition and Exercise Trial, investigating exercise and nutrition treatments to help support people with lung cancer receiving anticancer treatments.

Research

As part of her PhD, Alex has recently completed a mixed-methods observational cohort study with older adults with cancer, investigating the prevalence, overlap, and predictors of malnutrition, sarcopenia, and cachexia in hospitalised patients.

Recent publications include a systematic review and meta-analysis of markers of malnutrition in older adults with cancer, and a mixed-methods systematic review investigating patients views and experiences of malnutrition screening.
