Lecturer in Biomedical Science specialising in cardiovascular inflammation and deputy programme director of the BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science programme. I also teach on a number of other undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
I completed my undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Bradford, leaving with a PhD in Pharmacology in 2019. I then continued my research into cardiovascular inflammation in a postdoctoral research position at the University of Hull before taking on a Lecturer in Biomedical Science position in 2021. In Oct 2022, I became Deputy Programme Director of the Biomedical Science programme.
My PhD research was focused on the potential role for IL-6 trans-signalling in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), and whether prostanoid induction of SOCS3 is sufficient to limit IL-6 signalling and thus, have a therapeutic benefit in PAH. Now, my research interests have broadened to consider the efficacy of other novel therapeutic targets in the treatment of cardiovascular disease.
Alongside this, I am also interested in pedagogical topics such as post-graduate student experience, undergraduate assessment and feedback, and undergraduate awarding gaps.
I am the module lead of two Biomedical Science programmes - Skills for Biomedical and Forensic Scientists and Biological Basis of Disease. I also contribute to teaching on the MSc. Biomedical Sciences, MSc Pharmacology and Drug Discovery, non-medical prescribing, and MBBS programmes.
