Charlotte is a Lecturer in Biomedical Science, specialising in genetics and molecular biology and contributing to a variety of taught undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes.
Charlotte took a degree in Biology before completing a PhD at the Wellcome Centre for Cell-Matrix Research, University of Manchester, investigating proteins involved in Marfan Syndrome. In 1997, she joined a gene therapy group at Great Ormond Street, London working in transplantation immunology.
In 2001, Charlotte took a role as lecturer in the Postgraduate Medical Institute, University of Hull and became involved in the development of microfluidic technologies for biomedical applications.
Charlotte has over 25 years research experience and has worked on numerous grant-funded inter-disciplinary projects developing microfluidic chip technologies for tissue analysis and nucleic acid-based diagnostic devices.
Projects have included collaborations with NHS clinical colleagues (in vitro models of cancer and inflammatory bowel disease), the Forensic Science Service (DNA fingerprinting on-chip) and Biotech Companies (microfluidic chip-based diagnosis of sepsis, STIs, COVID-19).
Charlotte specialises in Genetics and Molecular Biology and contributes towards teaching on the following programmes of study:
