Annabelle is a GP Portfolio Fellow, working with Professor Joanne Reeve on the WiseGP Project.
In 2006, Annabelle was awarded a grant for her outstanding A-Level results to support her training as a doctor at Keele Medical School. During this time, she obtained the best overall performance in the Medical School Progress Tests for years 2, 3, 4 and 5.
After working her foundation years as a doctor at the Royal Stoke Hospital, Annabelle was awarded an NIHR academic clinical fellowship in general practice, where she had the opportunity to develop her research skills at Keele University, alongside completing her training as a GP. She subsequently obtained funding to complete a PhD from the School for Primary Care Research and the Haywood Foundation.
Her PhD, which was focused on rheumatoid arthritis and comorbid mood problems, involved a qualitative study, systematic review and cohort study. She was also a co-applicant on the INCLUDE pilot study, in which she helped to design and implement a nurse-led primary care review to assess and manage comorbidities in inflammatory conditions. Annabelle presented her work locally, regionally and nationally, winning 12 conference prizes for oral and poster presentations.
Since completing her PhD, Annabelle has had a portfolio of other roles. For two years she worked for the RCGP training pharmacists to deliver the CPCS service. More recently she became an RCGP curriculum development editor and also became involved in the work to build and sustain WiseGP, a project established by Professor Joanne Reeve.Within WiseGP, Annabelle has led ideas for a monthly newsletter inspired by her everyday practice. She has also helped to expand the GEM library, sharing headlines from the latest research evidence for GPs. She has particularly enjoyed applying her artistic skills to inform the design of the WiseGP website, WISDOM course learning resources and animations.
Annabelle recognises the importance of her work supporting patients and colleagues as a GP in her local community- she currently works 3.5 days in general practice, alongside her portfolio roles.
