Hull York Medical School has been ranked 5th for Medicine, as part of the 2025 Guardian University Guide Rankings.

The Guardian league table ranks UK institutions by subject, and looks at student satisfaction, number of staff, expenditure per student, and career prospects.

The league table considered eight different metrics in total, with Hull York scoring much higher than previously for National Student Survey (NSS) Teaching and NSS feedback – resulting in a rise in position from 15th in the 2024 rankings to 5th in 2025.

The rankings follow the recent National Student Survey (NSS) results which saw the School improve its performance in 6 out of the 7 areas covered by the survey and ranked within the top 10 of UK medical schools teaching on my course, learning opportunities, assessment and feedback and mental wellbeing services.

These results demonstrate the School’s continued commitment to student experience and Professor Lucy Ambrose, MB BS Medicine Programme Director at Hull York Medical School, is delighted with the results.

She says: "These results reflect the hard work and dedication of staff across the School and their commitment to our students – ensuring that they receive outstanding teaching and learning and support which enables them to realise their potential as exceptional doctors. This year we celebrated our 20th anniversary, and as we look forward to the next phase of our development, providing a high-quality student experience will continue to be at the heart of everything we do."
