Hull York Medical School opens doors of virtual MediCafé to aspiring doctors
3 March 2021
Hull York Medical School is relaunching its online MediCafé series to support, inspire and assist young people with aspirations to study Medicine.
Due to the success of the previous year’s series, the web chats will be returning on 4 March 2021 and are primarily aimed at prospective medical students who are studying at school between years 9-13.
Topics range from the common questions that arise when thinking about pursuing medicine as a career, as well as the medical school admissions and application process, through to student life and work experience. Experts from Hull York Medical School will deliver each session and be supported by student ambassadors sharing their own experiences and thoughts.
Speaking about the MediCafé series, Alexandra Murphy, Widening Participation and Outreach Officer at Hull York Medical School, said:
‘Our popular MediCafé series is back for a second year to support students from across the country who are considering a future career in medicine.
'There are so many sources of information out there and with in-person events still not possible, we wanted to make it straightforward for prospective students to ask the questions they have about studying and applying to medicine and get honest and practical answers from our staff and students.’
The MediCafé will be opening its doors from Thursday 4 March 2021 at 12.30pm. More details can be found on our website.
Since Hull York Medical School was established in 2003, it has been committed to raising aspirations, supporting young people’s choices, and encouraging progression into medicine. Its flagship Pathways to Medicine programme runs annually in partnership with the Sutton Trust, offering talented Year 12 students a range of opportunities to give them an insight into the medical profession, supporting them through the application and selection process for medical school, and preparing them for attending university. The School also offers a range of activities for schools and colleges from Year 7 upwards, ranging from discovery days and talks to summer schools and mock interviews.
