Dr Gordon Hayes


Clinical Educational Facilitator and Director of Clinical Studies for Primary Care

Gordon is a Clinical Educational Facilitator for HYMS based at York. He is also a Director of Clinical Studies for Primary Care.


Gordon obtained a degree from Cambridge University in Natural Sciences (1986) before completing his 2nd MB at UCL (1987) and graduating in Medicine from Edinburgh University (1990).

Following medical and surgical posts at Leeds General Infirmary and St James' University Hospital Leeds, he subsequently trained as a General Practitioner in York, gaining his MRCGP (1994). He worked as a GP in the Scarborough area for over twenty years, has tutored and examined on the RCGP Yorkshire Faculty MRCGP preparation course, was as a GP Trainer for six years, and has worked as a Medical Examiner for the DVLA.

Since 2006 he has taught at HYMS in York where he is a Clinical Educational Facilitator, and gained a PGCClinEd at Newcastle University (2008). He is also Director of Clinical Studies in Primary Care for HYMS in the Scarborough region.


Gordon is a PBL Facilitator for first year students at HYMS in York. He also teaches clinical examination and communication skills.

He is sometimes involved with teaching Phase 2 and Phase 3 students in his role as a Director of Clinical Studies. He is also involved with training and reviewing Clinical Placement Tutors.
