Our Postgraduate Diploma in Health Professions Education is designed especially for health professionals who work in education. Whether you work in medicine, nursing, midwifery, radiography, physiotherapy, pharmacy, dentistry or another health profession, this course covers a variety of topics that will equip you with the skills and knowledge to be at the forefront of medical and health education

You will deliver high quality health professions education by reflecting upon and sharing insights into your clinical and teaching practice. You will learn, understand and apply educational theories and evidence from research literature, consider leadership in an educational context, and develop an understanding of approaches to educational research.

Diploma modules are designed to provide students with knowledge and skills upon which they can continue to build their academic studies and career.

Flexible learning options

This programme offers you the flexibility you need to juggle studying with a busy work schedule and home life. You can study at your own pace progressing from Certificate  to Diploma to Masters of Science, should you wish to do so. This course offers you the option of studying via distance learning, which is 100% online, or via blended learning, which incorporates face-to-face study days.

There are a variety of programme pathways available to suit your previous experience, work commitments and personal goals. More details can be found in the programme brochure.

You can also choose to commence your studies in either January or September, depending on which date suits you best. 

If you have already have the certificate, you may be eligible to apply for Accredited Prior Learning (APL) to allow entry onto the Diploma programe. In exceptional circumstances accredited prior learning may be considered for candidates with extensive educational experience but without a formal qualification. 

English Language Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate evidence of proficiency in English Language as follows: IELTS: 7.0 (in the academic test, with minimum score of 5.5 in all four language competences: Listening, reading, speaking and writing).

When you make your application, we may ask you for the following documents:

  • Academic transcript
  • Your CV (curriculum vitae)
  • Copy of a language certificate

If you have completed the certificate elsewhere, you can apply for a transfer of credit.

We take applications to these programmes throughout the year for commencing in either January or September, but early applications are encouraged.

The fees for part time study are for the current year only, fees for subsequent years are subject to confirmation.

The Certificate in Health Professions Education is recognised by the Yorkshire and Humber Deanery as an approved route for GPs who are interested in becoming a GP trainer. Funding is available for this programme through the Yorkshire and Humber Deanery, subject to availability.
