Laura is an NIHR Doctoral Research Fellow working within the Institute for Clinical and Applied Health Research. Supervised by Professor Judith Cohen, Dr Maureen Twiddy and Professor Liz Walker, she is developing specialist skills in mixed methods research and conducting doctoral research investigating the under-representation of females in clinical trials.
Laura has a focus upon trial methodology, in particular using mixed methods and Studies Within A Trial (SWATs) to optimise recruitment to clinical trials, with a focus on under-represented groups.
Laura obtained a BSc (Hons) in Psychology at the University of Hull and, as part of her NIHR-funded pre-doctoral fellowship, an MSc in Health Research at the University of York. She has worked on a variety of NIHR-funded trials, predominantly in the fields of addiction and serious mental illness.
Laura has an interest in using mixed methods to investigate barriers and levers, and inform intervention development to improve recruitment to clinical trials in under-served groups. Her doctoral research focusses upon improving the recruitment of a diverse range of females to clinical trials, with a particular interest in the inclusion of those experiencing socio-economic disadvantage.
