Soapbox Science hosted in St Stephens

On 1 July, scientists from Hull York Medical School joined peers from the University of Hull, University of Leeds and University of Bradford to take part in this year’s Soapbox Science Hull event, which celebrates women in science.

The event, held at St Stephen's shopping centre, Hull, featured lively and engaging presentations to the public from Hull York Medical School's Kat Sanders, lecturer in anatomy, and Dr Laura Sadofsky, lecturer in respiratory medicine at the Centre for Cardiovascular and Metabolic Research. Kat's presentation focused on the reasons behind the names of muscles, while Laura talked about airway irritants.

The academics engaged over 700 passers-by in accessible scientific discussion and debate, while highlighting the research excellence of the school and the expertise and facilities available to students.
