HYMS was proud to once again host the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP)-accredited GP update course at the University of Hull last weekend. This followed the success of the first event last year and like its predecessor was fully booked.
Some 220 local GPs and advanced nurse practitioners attended, half of whom were returning from last year. Delegates included representatives from the local faculty of the RCGP and also the four local Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) – Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, North and North East Lincolnshire – who once again supported the event.
There was a real buzz in the room as well as at the breaks and several delegates commented that the day had reinvigorates their enthusiasm and interest in medicine. Others said it was a great chance to see colleagues away from the usual hustle and bustle of very busy clinical practice.
With the Hull version now becoming established as an annual event, HYMS will be hosting a further GP update event in York on Sat 17th October supported by Vale of York, East Riding and Scarborough and Ryedale CCGs.
HYMS is also developing other courses relevant to primary care clinicians and over the next few months there will be courses on palliative care, motivational interviewing, paediatrics, ethics and also one entitled 'ECG made GP-sy'
