Conference presentation for student QIP team

Congratulations to Year 4 students Margaret Aslet, Oliver Brown, Lynne Carty and Thomas Robbins who have had a poster accepted for presentation at the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management (FMLM) third national conference in Manchester on 23-25 February.

The subject of group's work, based on their Year 4 QIP (Quality Improvement Project), is "The implementation by medical students of a golden patient system to improve trauma operating list start times".

The Golden Patient System involves clearly identifying a suitable patient to be first on the morning trauma theatre list and making all relevant medical, surgical, theatre and nursing teams aware so that they can prioritise getting this patient ready to go into theatre at 8.30am and avoid unnecessary delays. After implementing the Golden Patient System, patients arrived into theatre on average 13 minutes earlier, which over a year could lead to 34 hours of theatre time saved.

The team was supervised by Dr Phil Dickinson, Consultant Anaesthetist and supported by Diane Watkins, Trauma Coordinator, both of Scarborough Hospital.
